Progressive Democrats of America and partners will continue the “Educate Congress” campaign letter drops at Congressional Offices on Capitol Hill and across the USA, to urge action and invite continued engagement on progressive legislation. Activists will ask elected officials to reject the Ryan Budget and to support the Congressional Progressive Caucus “Back To Work Budget;” H.R. 1000: The Humphrey-Hawkins 21st Century Full Employment and Training Act; H.R. 200: the Responsible End to the War in Afghanistan Act; and H.R. 12: the Voter Empowerment Act.

PDA National Director Tim Carpenter said, “This month, we will reach 150 offices of Congress members in districts and on Capitol Hill, calling for prosperity not austerity. We will discuss the ‘Back to Work Budget’ which would create 7 million new jobs and reduce our deficit by $4.5 trillion over 10 years by investing in infrastructure, by closing loopholes, taxing carbon and financial speculation—all while protecting Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. The speculation tax—also called the Robin Hood Tax—would raise needed revenues while curtailing runaway speculation and stabilizing financial markets. The carbon tax would raise revenues and address the climate change crisis.”

Carpenter added, “We will also discuss the Federal Government leading in job creation through Congressman John Conyers’ H.R. 1000, ending the War in Afghanistan through Congresswoman Barbara Lee’s H.R. 200, and protecting voting rights for all through Congressman John Lewis’s H.R. 12. We launched this campaign three years ago—before the tea party, and before the Occupy movement—to educate Congress.”

Progressive Democrats of America was founded in 2004 to reform the Democratic Party and restore its focus on principles including: economic and social justice; environmental protection; healthcare as a human right; ending corporate rule; clean, fair, transparent elections; fair—not "free"—trade; equality for all; and ending wars and occupations.
