Running Because We CAN for Kids Who CAN'TOn June 9, 2013, the American Friends of ALYN Hospital will host its first-ever race (and also the first ever US based running event to benefit Israel) in Branch Brook Park (Essex County, NJ), to raise funds for ALYN Hospital in Jerusalem, Israel.
By: American Friends of ALYN Hospital Feb. 21, 2013 - PRLog -- The event - LEGS OF LOVE - starts on Sunday, June 9, 2013 at 8:00 AM with USATF certified half and full marathons, a 5k, and family fun run for participants of all ages and abilities.
As they run through the Olmstead-designed landmark park, participants will experience the best of all scenic routes: winding paths, plentiful lakes, foot bridges, and the largest collection of Cherry Trees in the country. Check-in and orientation will be centrally located inside the park’s beautiful Cherry Blossom House. The family fun run for children will be outdoors directly behind the House. Participant support will be first-rate, with professionally designed and supported hydration, relief, and first-aid stations approximately every mile. The finish line will feature celebratory snacks, drinks, and entertainment appropriate for all ages. “We are making history by running in the US to benefit needy children in Israel. I am very excited about this new event,” says LEGS OF LOVE Chairman, Asher Kornbluth. “It’s going to be a great way to engage the tri-state community in an event that is a little closer to home than our annual bike ride in Israel.” The bike ride that Kornbluth refers to is Wheels of Love, the largest charity endurance ride in the Middle East, that attracts almost 200 North Americans every year who are coordinated through the Friends of ALYN Hospital. “Now, you don’t have to schlep your bike across the world to help. You don’t have to be away from home for so many days! The whole family can take part.” LEGS OF LOVE is, at its core, a fundraising event to help ALYN Hospital bridge the annual $3,000,000 funding shortfall between what is covered by health insurance and the actual cost of providing such comprehensive rehabilitation care. Adult runners will be asked to raise a minimum of $1,500 in support of ALYN Hospital for both marathons and $750 for the 5K. All students with a valid Student ID will be asked to raise $500. ALYN Hospital is Israel’s only comprehensive rehabilitation center for physically disabled children from birth to young adulthood. The world renowned hospital combines the most innovative and state-of-the- Join this history making event.
