Feb. 11, 2013 - PRLog -- Due to their health benefits and minimal environmental impact, organic, locally-grown foods have garnered a great deal of attention over the past few years. A new startup company, Valley View Organic Farm, LLC has recently opened in an effort to share the benefits of organic farming with the members of the Brighton, Michigan, community. Still in its first year of business, Valley View Organic Farm, LLC has already launched several initiatives and is looking forward to unveiling many more throughout 2013.

The products that are offered by Valley View Organic Farm are grown and raised consistent with National Organic Standards and, currently, include whole and cut chickens, whole and half pigs, and organic seedlings. As 2013 continues to unfold, the team at Valley View Organic Farm is anticipating the launch of flower and produce sales, educational classes, and field trips. In the fall, the farm is planning to set up a pumpkin patch and offer tractor rides to provide family-friendly seasonal festivities.

Owner Mark St. Germain purchased the farm in May of 2012 and also owns an 80-acre organic farm in Harbor Springs, Michigan. He has lived in the Brighton community for 20 years, where he has raised three children. His close ties to the community have fueled his desire to strengthen the residents' understanding of where their food comes from and how a strong farming organization can improve community relationships.

"I have always wanted to create a business that really changes the way people think, in a good way," states St. Germain. "The mission of Valley View Organic Farm is to nourish the community by fostering the growth of plants and animals. We want to showcase the 'farm to plate' philosophy, not just preach it. The farm actually provides an experience that, I believe, will create a lasting impression on its visitors and the community as a whole."

An educated entrepreneur who recently graduated from Michigan State University's Student Organic Farming Program, St. Germain volunteers at the Capuchin Soup Kitchens’ Earthworks Urban Farm. He leads Ben Hicks, the Farm Specialist, and Kerry Vetter, the Director of Marketing and Farm Coordination, in promoting and growing this startup. Hicks, who also recently graduated from the Michigan State University Student Organic Farming Program, is originally from Ann Arbor. Vetter is an avid gardener with a background in business and economics who is spearheading the promotion of the company while lending a hand in caring for the farm.

"I'm looking forward to seeing how the farm grows and how, as a team, we impact the people living in the area," St. Germain comments. "I know that our business model is one that will not only excel in this economy, but bring new experiences, educational lessons, and values to the families living in the community. The life lessons that organic farming provides are invaluable, and I hope to contribute positively to the lives of the people who visit by offering a place in which they can learn these lessons."
