What's the secret to maintaining a culture of innovation?

Most of us don't spend every day innovating or trying to be innovative, in actuality we are executing and implementing. If you have a continuing business then you know that it is hard to innovate, because innovation likely threatens what you have already. It's like a survival instinct, almost like your businesses immune system is trying to fight off innovation.

How can you override that immune system?

There are various different ways for isolating from the immune system, such as bringing something in from the outside, something different. Even thought the innovation is coming from the outside of the business, often a start up or even a university your business will complete the experience and therefore continue on through refinements to the product or the scale up of manufacturing. Start ups can also be a solution since they don't have an immune system they are ready to take on any challenge of being innovative and their ideas can be refreshing.

Does a business really need to be innovative to be successful?

There are a whole range of innovations. Doing old things well requires small, accrual innovation and we need some better ways of talking about innovation.

The thing is if we want to have any kind of free and profitability, then we need innovation because it is what creates growth and therefore as a result of growth also creates new job opportunities.
