Follow on Google News | Miami-Dade Students Unveil Self-Produced Environmental FilmsFrom Scripting to Filming and Editing, Students Created the films as part of Miami Science Museum’s Upward Bound Program funded by the State Farm Youth Advisory Board Saturday, February 9, at 2 pm
By: Schwartz Media On February 9, students will be showcasing environmental films they created about South Florida’s environment as part of the Miami Science Museum’s Upward Bound Math and Science program. Twenty-five students from the program learned how to script, film and edit their own environmentally themed films. This initiative was funded by a $63,330 grant from the State Farm Youth Advisory Board to engage local high school students in restoring South Florida’s urban coastal habitats while telling their own stories about Florida’s unique environment to a broader audience. Students were trained by professional filmmakers representing Miami World Cinema Center and the Big Blue & You Foundation. The filmmakers led the students through an innovative process that taught them how to make their own environmentally- The Museum’s award-winning Upward Bound program has engaged hundreds of local youth in embarking in careers in science and technology. Ninety-eight percent of students in the program have gone on to enroll in college, being the first in their families to do so.
