Feb. 4, 2013 - PRLog -- Gainesville, FL -- Dr. Kyriaki “Kiki” Kaplanidou strikes again.  After recently receiving the 2012 International Educator of the Year award from the University of Florida, Dr. Kaplanidou has been awarded 2012 Researcher of the Year from the Greek Society for Sport Management.  This is an annual award given to a productive and influential faculty member that works in the field of sport management.  Dr. Kaplanidou, who is originally from Greece, was one of several nominees voted on by members of the Society.  Her commendation was officially announced during the Greek Society for Sport Management’s 13th Congress of Sport Management and Recreation in Sparta, Greece, held December 7-9.  Dr. Kaplanidou was also the recipient of the award in 2008 – an honor that does not normally occur twice.  Although unable to attend the official ceremony, the meritorious award is on its way to America at the time of this writing.

Founded in 1993, the Greek Society for Sport Management has approximately 400 members and is based in Thessaloniki, Greece.  The main tenets of the Society are discussion and research on issues of sport management, the presentation of research findings in Greek and international markets, applying research findings into practice, and the promotion of sport management in Greece.  The Greek Society for Sport Management publishes the only online magazine in Greece that deals exclusively with sport and recreation management.  Although not an official publication of the organization, many faculty members that belong to the Society are highly involved with the International Journal of Sport Management, Recreation & Tourism (IJSMaRT).  Dr. Kaplanidou is a current Board Member.

The Department of Tourism, Recreation and Sport Management is committed to national and international excellence in the generation, dissemination, and communication of knowledge in tourism, recreation and sport management.  The Department is also dedicated to excellence in the preparation and training of future industry and academic professionals, and providing relevant outreach to stakeholders.
