Learning Environments 2013 Opens Next Week

Jan. 22, 2013 - PRLog -- Orlando, Fla. – Administrators, educators, architects, designers and engineers in both K-12 and higher education will meet face-to-face next week during the all-new 2013 Learning Environments conference and expo event.  Formerly the School and College Building Expo, Learning Environments has been re-energized to fully integrate the latest in education and construction trends including ideas in sustainability, adaptive reuse, programming and design. Learning Environments is produced in partnership with the American Institute of Architects Committee on Architecture for Education (AIA CAE) and is co-located with both FETC and the FDLA (Florida Distance Learning Association) Annual Meeting.

Learning Environments’ distinguished keynote speakers include Dr. David Sousa, award-winning educational consultant and author of more than a dozen books. He will discuss some remarkable findings from brain research about how we learn, and their implications for everyone involved in building, leading and teaching in schools. Another keynote, Matt Kaplan, is the author of ScholarScribe.com. He has been one of the invisible voices behind science and technology stories in The Economist for years. His articles also frequently wind up in National Geographic, Scientific American, Nature and New Scientist. And keynote, Anne P, Taylor, Ph.D., Hon. AIA, ACSA Distinguished Professor, is Regents Professor in the School of Architecture and Planning at the University of New Mexico, where she was the founder and long-time director of the Institute for Environmental Education. Anne will discuss research on the effects of the physical environment on learning and behavior. Her presentation will posit newer ways of thinking about school and classroom configurations that create magical learning spaces.

Learning Environments 2013 takes place at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla., Jan. 29 through Jan. 31, and features the latest facilities design and planning information and resources serving the K-12 and higher education markets. New for 2013 are poster sessions presenting unique, cost effective solutions for a wide variety of facility administrator’s, architect’s and designer’s needs. At the conclusion of the Thursday Keynote, Learning Environments will be raffling a full conference registration to the upcoming Learning Environments conference in Boston this July 29-31, a $695 value. Also new this year, all attendees will have an opportunity to win a $50 American Express gift card at the conclusion of each Learning Environments Theater Session.

This year’s schedule will feature concurrent sessions focused on innovation implementation, planning and design sustainability, new construction and reconstruction, architecture abroad, building reuse and adaptation, master planning and more.  Attendees will have the opportunity to earn up to 11.5 AIA Continuing Education Hours by attending the full conference program. Learning Environments also offers you the chance to explore additional areas of technology and its application to schools and campuses through its co-location with FETC.

Special networking events for this year’s conference begin immediately with the Learning Environments/FETC Exhibit Hall Grand Opening and Reception on Tuesday, Jan. 29. Attendees then have the opportunity to become more involved with members of the AIA Advisory Group by attending the AIA CAE Winter Breakfast meeting Wednesday morning, Jan. 30. Finally, the annual Learning Environments Reception will be held Wednesday, Jan. 30  ̶  one of Learning Environments’ most popular events.
