AITO unveils Dubai as the host destination of its summer overseas conference 2013
The biggest issues affecting the independent travel sector will be addressed at the conference in June 2013 – taking place in one of the world’s fastest-developing destinations
Sponsored by the Dubai Department of Tourism & Commerce Marketing, Emirates - the award-winning airline - and Sofitel, Dubai conference delegates will stay at the luxury five-star Sofitel Dubai Jumeirah Beach Hotel and have the chance to explore the historic and cultural side of the destination as part of the programme, as well as to join pre and post fam trips to Oman and Mauritius.
This summer conference will be in addition to AITO’s winter overseas conference which will take place in November 2013 – with its venue set to be revealed in the next few months. It will focus on three key different issues: how to run an entrepreneurial and profitable travel business, how to choose the right travel suppliers, destinations and experiences to inspire new and repeat customers and how to optimise online technology for more effective operations and marketing.
This new two-conference format means that members can focus more on the issues that directly affect them and their teams - from sales and networking, to the development of product and industry issues. Although the summer conference will particularly appeal to AITO Specialist Travel Agents, AITO expects to take bookings from operators, agents and affiliates for either or both conferences based on their specific interests, with preferential rates on offer for those who elect to attend both.
Derek Moore, Chairman of AITO, says: “Building on the success of one overseas conference for both our agent and operator members over the past two years, this updated two-conference format for 2013 will allow much more time to discuss the many issues within our challenging industry. The success of our organisation over the past two years has meant that there hasn’t been enough time to discuss topics in as much detail as members would like over one weekend; we hope to have solved this problem by holding two conferences, each with a different focus, this year.”
Oliver Broad, Chairman of AITO Specialist Travel Agent, says: “AITO is a family of like-minded businesses and these two events will ensure that all of our members - whether agents, tour operators or affiliates - will be able to engage and benefit fully. The summer event in Dubai will offer plenty of time for networking and discussions on the retail and sales environment - ideal for agents and tour operator agency sales personnel.
“Many of us will have visited Dubai, but it is always evolving and we cannot deny the opportunities the destination brings. Over the past few years our overseas conference has explored little-known cities such as Vilnius and Gdansk in Eastern Europe, so now it’s time to keep up-to-date with the developments of a more mainstream destination. And this conference isn’t just about flying out to Dubai - there is a whole world on offer via the Emirates network and we will encourage delegates to make the most of this opportunity.’”
Ian Scott of Dubai Tourism says: “Dubai Tourism is delighted to be hosting AITO’s summer overseas conference. The independent sector has always been a cornerstone of Dubai's success story, and that will remain the case as the Emirate pursues its strategic vision to become one of the world’s leading destinations for leisure and business travel alike.
“This conference will give us the opportunity to showcase just how far Dubai has come over recent years, especially to delegates who have never before visited. Dubai welcomes close to 700,000 visitors from the UK every year and those numbers continue to grow.”
