Jan. 9, 2013 - PRLog -- THOUSAND OAKS, CALIF.--The Southeast Ventura County YMCA and its four branches serving communities in eastern Ventura County are kicking off their annual fundraising efforts the beginning of February. The six-week fundraiser, which runs through mid-March, hopes to raise $311,500 that will go towards making local YMCA programs and memberships available to those in financial need and to enhance YMCA youth and adult programs. The Y has been in eastern Ventura County since 1964. The nonprofit charitable organization serves more than 26,000 residents annually.

The four east county YMCA branches are Triunfo YMCA (serving Agoura Hills, Westlake Village and Oak Park) Conejo Valley YMCA (serving Thousand Oaks, Moorpark and the Santa Rosa Valley), Simi Valley Family YMCA (serving Simi Valley) and Miller Family YMCA of Newbury Park (serving Newbury Park including Dos Vientos Ranch).

"Donations made during the annual fundraising campaign help offset costs for services to YMCA participants who cannot afford to pay," says Rick Politte, president/CEO of the Southeast Ventura County Y. "Our fundraising goals are based on community need, and the need for financial aid among community members is growing. The generosity of our community enables all generations to take part in YMCA activities and to lead healthier and more socially connected lives. Donations make a long-lasting impact right here in our own neighborhoods." Last year, branches of the Southeast Ventura County YMCA provided over $646,000 in financial assistance to 2,913 children and adults.

Funds raised also help support camps, preschool, youth sports, teen programs, families programs and healthy living classes.

Any size gift is appreciated. A gift of $125 provides seven swim lessons for three kids, giving them the gift of learning water safety and confidence; $250 makes it possible for a child to attend a week of summer camp; $500 enables a child to attend a YMCA preschool or afterschool program for a month; and $1,000 helps a teen participate in a YMCA leadership programs such as Youth & Government and Model United Nations.

"Our focus is on healthy living, social responsibility and youth development," notes Politte. "We need the community's help to ensure that everyone, regardless of their ability to pay, has the same opportunities to take part in the special experiences found only at the Y."

Over 170 YMCA volunteers will be contacting individuals, businesses and foundations during the campaign to request donations.

To find out how to contribute, contact the YMCA corporate office at 805-497-3081. Donations can be designated to a specific YMCA branch. Donations are also accepted online at http://sevymca.org by clicking on “Strengthening Our Community."
