Launch of EFT GLOBAL's Website, December 24, 2012
EFT Global's website officially launches on December 24, 2012. EFT Global, a 501(c)(3) registered foundation, is dedicated to transforming trauma across the world using Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT).
EFT Global, a 501(c)(3) registered foundation, is dedicated to bringing the enormous benefits of Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) to assist and empower three primary populations:
As an organization, EFT Global officially launched in October, 2011 in conjunction with its first project in the troubled city of Nuevo Laredo, Mexico just across the Texas border. The aim was to plant the seed of EFT in the city where community members live in constant fear. For many it is hard to image what it means to live in a zone where violence reigns and its power exceeds the possibilities of law and order, but for people in Nuevo Laredo that is their daily reality. The project was led by EFT Practitioner, David MacKay from Puebla, Mexico accompanied by Carolina Tellez from Guadalajara and Jenny Pavisic from Mexico City. They spent 5 days training psychologists and social workers from the DIF (Integral Family Development, an official organization dedicated to the implementation of public policy regarding social welfare), as well as the health and education sectors and other community volunteers. The team was asked back to complete a second project a few months later.
Now, in the organization’
Efficacy of EFT
When skillfully applied, energy psychology based exposure treatments including EFT have shown to be particularly effective in relieving the emotional distress typically experienced by disaster survivors. In a recent study involving 77 Haitian seminarians after the 2010 earthquake, 62% exhibited scores in the clinical range on the post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) checklist (PCL). After receiving 2 days of instruction in EFT none of the 77 participants scored in the clinical range on the PCL. Further, posttest PCL scores decreased an average of 72%, ranging between a 21% reduction to a 100% reduction in symptom severity. These results are consistent with other published reports of EFT’s efficacy in treating PTSD symptoms among traumatized populations including war veterans and genocide survivors (Gurret, Palmer-Hoffman & Church, 2012; Feinstein, 2012). Energy psychology treatments such as Thought Field Therapy (TFT) and EFT have also been used effectively in Rwanda with child and teenage victims of the 1990’s Genocide and Rape, with Iraq Vets suffering from PTSD, with Christchurch earthquake survivors and with hurricane evacuees in Atlanta, Georgia among others (Church, 2010, Stone, Leyden & Fellows, 2009; Feinstein, 2008).
While the application of EFT following a disaster must be calibrated to the unique cultures, needs and constraints of the individuals being treated as well as appropriately timed to provide maximum assistance, if properly applied, field reports show a pattern of strong outcomes following the use of EFT immediately after a disaster and longer term in the subsequent treatment of PTSD (Feinstein, 2008). During the early stages of a disaster, EFT has been enormously helpful in rebuilding trust, hope, and connection while dramatically reducing and even completely resolving traumatic symptoms. According to Feinstein (2008), there are four tiers of energy psychology intervention 1) immediate relief/stabilization, 2) extinguishing conditioned responses, 3) overcoming complex psychological problems, and 4) promoting optimal functioning. Immediately following a disaster, application of psychological first aid using EFT would be characteristic of the first tier of intervention with the subsequent tiers being introduced over a period of time to assist as needed. Because EFT is so scalable, it is very well suited for large disaster situations especially when taught by experienced EFT practitioners who can ensure the techniques are being applied effectively and efficiently.
EFT Global Team
EFT Global would not exist if not for the vision of Dawson Church, Ph.D. so a BIG thanks goes out to him and his team for their ongoing support. For years, Dawson dreamt of starting an EFT-based humanitarian organization to assist those impacted by natural- and human-caused disasters. Drawing upon his vast wisdom and network, in 2011, he put together a perfect team to help realize this dream: Diane von der Weid (Switzerland)
Ultimately, EFT Global exists because of the generous donation of time and resources from those who believe in the healing power of EFT. We want to thank those who generously contributed to our Indiegogo campaign. With your help and our technical partners who agreed to a deferred payment plan, we were able to get the momentum we needed to design, develop and bring EFTGlobal.org to fruition.
About EFT Global.org
The goal of creating EFTGlobal.org was to create a community and a focal point where the power of EFT can be brought to bear on humanitarian projects around the globe and to become a network and digital hub for those actively teaching, practicing and learning EFT. EFT Global also aspires to do its part to ensure EFT becomes widely known across the globe to alleviate disharmony and distress in people's lives, both large and small. And, in keeping with Dawson’s original vision, one of EFT Global’s longer-term goals is to proactively avert human-caused disasters in collaboration with other trauma experts, humanitarian organizations and local people/groups in an effort to create and promote global peace. As such, EFT Global.org is meant to be a global website, a place for you, me, and everyone interested in learning, sharing and using EFT to heal ourselves and others.
