Dec. 9, 2012 - PRLog -- Dominion Mixed Martial Arts Academy just finished competing at the Matshark Submission League tournament known as the Jiboia Open on December 8, 2012 held at Woodlawn Gym in San Antonio, Texas.  The event highlighted Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academies throughout the State of Texas. Fighters competed in a round robin, submission only fight and categories included Adult, Teens and Kids Gi and No Gi Divisions.

Dominion Mixed Martial Arts Academy had several students attend the tournament and the results were impressive. According to Mr. Rodriguez, the head instructor at Dominion Mixed Martial Arts Academy “we are always impressed with how well our athletes do. They train, compete and win and they honor our academy by doing so well.”

Jiboia Open Results Below:

♦ Jaeger Henzel, Kids Division Silver No Gi and Bronze Gi Division
♦ Alex Fountain, Teen Division, Bronze Medal No Gi Division
♦ Zach Bannon, Adult Division, Silver Gi Division, Gold Medal No Gi Division
♦ Jerry Musquiz, Adult Division, Bronze Medal, Gi Division
♦ Robert Grace, Adult Division, Bronze Medal, Gi Division
♦ Stevie Ray Ellis, Adult Division, Bronze Medal, No Gi Division
♦ David Berube, Teen Division, Honorable Mention

Dominion Mixed Martial Arts Academy also had its first special needs student compete at the Jiboia Open. Yellow belt, David Berube, fought in both gi and no gi divisions and impressed all the attendees since this was the 1st time that a special needs student had actually competed in a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournament.  According to Mr. Rodriguez, “David is an example of the perfect student. He never misses class and when the opportunity presented itself, David asked if he could compete and he did extremely well. He submitted his first opponent with a cross collar choke and although he lost the next two matches he never stopped fighting. When he eventually transitioned to No Gi he was extremely tired but still gave it 100%. We are honored to have David train at our academy.”
