Nov. 8, 2012 - PRLog -- Leading finishing equipment manufacturer Guyson International has recently installed a Guyson Formula 1200 bench top blast cabinet into the Design Technology Department of St Thomas More Catholic School, Blaydon, Tyne & Wear. This bead blasting machine has been installed to widen the variety of surface textures and finishes available to pupils in their Design Technology key stage three project work.

The Formula 1200 is proving the ideal compact choice for schools, as being bench top located, it enables a wide height range of pupils to access the machine and doesn’t take up valuable floor space. Sometimes the larger free standing blast cabinets can less suited to ease of operation in a mixed age environment, with the cabinets being quite tall and the blast gun being foot operated. Whereas with the bench top Formula 1200, the taller students can stand, whilst the smaller ones can either sit on high stools or stand on block steps to operate the cabinet and the blast gun trigger is hand operated.

Mrs Jennings, Head of Design Technology recommended the Guyson Formula 1200 having worked with a similar machine at a previous position and knowing of its potential for delivering an exciting range of surface finishes – perfect for the design technology course work.

The wide range of applications the blast cabinet is put towards includes cleaning rust and heat scale off pupils’ metalwork and jewellery and safely deburring metal objects. The bead blasting process is also highly suitable for providing etched designs onto glass, pottery and stone sculptures; producing a myriad of surface finishes and experimental textures to a wide range of components including wood, plastics, glass fabrics and metals and delivering superior finished surfaces on rapid prototypes prior to painting or coating.

The Formula 1200 is equipped with the powerful Guyson 400 high performance suction fed blast gun; ideal for most blasting operations, particularly those involving intricate shapes or those requiring a greater degree of precision. The cabinet itself is fitted with a full opening side loading door, leading into a 495mm (H) x 600mm (W) x 460mm (D) blast chamber, which is well illuminated with internal lighting. The internal working environment manages to be keep as clean and dust free as possible by a combination of solid metal construction with close fitting fixtures; created by good build design and accurate cutting, folding and welding and a powerful F21 dust collector, offered as standard with this size of cabinet. These are some of the key elements developed over the last 70 plus years that differentiate Guyson blast cabinets from the cheaper, inferior quality alternatives available through catalogue-type suppliers.

This cabinet can also be used as the base unit for adding the Guyson Pencil Blaster ultra-fine micro-nozzle pressure fed system. A compact unit, the Pencil Blaster measures only 200mm high by 200mm wide and 230mm deep. These units are available as either a single or twin micro nozzle systems and enable a range of specialist blast media’s to be available at the flick of a switch and with powerful precise etching power; perfect for intricate glass or ceramic design etching.
