Drilling Fluid Dewatering Technology

Nov. 4, 2012 - PRLog -- Dewatering is the process of extracting the liquid phase from drilling fluids through the use of chemically enhanced mechanical separation. It also often called " sumpless drilling'' or " chemically enhanced centrifugation ". This technology forms the last phase in a closed-loop system in which chemically driven flocculation processes,operating in conjunction with decanting centrifuges,completely separate sand,silt and colloidal solids from the liquid phase.

The fine solids,or  low-gravity solids,that accumulate in a mud system during the drilling process hinder efficient drilling in several ways,such as : pipe-sticking,penetration rate decrease, and other problems related to increased viscosity. Solids control equipment typically removes solids particles greater than 5-7 microns. while smaller particles remain in the mud system. As the concentration of these fine solids continues to build,the only conventional treatment is to dilute the mud system to reduce the low-gravity solids concentration or to build new mud. Dilution and building of more mud increase waste,disposal volumes and the cost of the drilling project

The key to a successful dewatering process is polymer injection system and decanter centrifuge. organic polymers are added to the drilling fluid via a conditioning manifold prior to entering a centrifuge. GN decanter centrifuge is prefect for the separation of flocked solids and clear water.  GN centrifuge features big bowl,high G-force.  The conveying speed can be controlled through an optional variable frequency drive or manually by changing the ratio of the scroll speed to the bowl speed for various processing needs.
