World First: Aussie Kids SMASH Literacy Target!Australian school students generate more than 2,000,000 minutes of literacy practice through a word-building competition.
The National Word Mania Challenge is a product of collaboration between Literacy Planet and Nickelodeon. Literacy Planet’s CEO, Chris Roberts said, “We believe that a life-long love of reading and writing is a precious gift to give a child. The best way to engage today’s kids in learning is through games they love to play. That’s why we created the Word Mania Challenge.” More than 33% of all Aussie Primary and Combined schools participated in the challenge, with students across the nation now competing to see who will win the ultimate prize. The objective of the Word Mania game is to see who can build the most words in three minutes, and the creators of the challenge couldn’t be more delighted with the results. “We originally set a target of one million (1,000,000) minutes of literacy. Thanks to all the teachers, parents and kids involved, we have smashed our target, with students creating double that amount of educational game play! We could not be more thrilled and grateful to all the teachers and students who made this competition such a success!” Winners will receive cool prizes like iPads, iPods and prize packs.
