Oct. 23, 2012 - PRLog -- Dr Les Bailey phd,Les Bailey physical therapist remembers a very special night in the world of muay thai.It was a night to remember for the rest of my life.

Being a keen thai boxer myself, I had heard of the legends of the sport in the uk ,and being asked to treat them by my own trainer and thai boxing legend Dick James(now a thai boxing master,a title rarely bestowed on a westerner.) was an honour
All the big names would be fighting, Kash the flash(who has just released his autobiography),Ronnie Green,Howard Brown,Edge Brown,Lisa Howarth,Anne Quinlan,Keith"Pele" Nathan, and owen Cumrie,I arrived in manchester with Dick James and a few top guys from our club armed with a portable treatment couch, unaware of the tough work that lay ahead. The atmosphere was tense with pre fight excitement and there was a buzz of pleasant tension in the air.
Around 15 minutes before the fight they would come to the room where i had set up my couch and receive mobilisation and deep tissue massage. These guys and girls were super fit,so I had to work double hard getting through the hard muscle fibres on the surface to get to the deeper fibres.

They were all fighting for world or uk titles so I did my best to bend and twist their joints into ultimate pre fight flexibility.I was working hard that night, and was sweating more than if I had been muay thai training myself!!!

Master Toddy was buzzing around his team ensuring they were physically and mentally ready.I remember him complimenting me on my treatment technique.I figured he must have had much experience of pre fight massage, having been a champion himself.

One by one the fighters went into the ring and I would sneak 5 minutes here and there to watch their fights inbetween treatments.

It was a most succesful night for our fighters as they shone amongst the other countrys best.

One thing that strikes me about thai fighters is that they suffer less injury than other sports players, such as footballers and rugby players.

One suspects that this is because of the high fitness and pre fight preparation that goes into a thai boxers armoury.

Any therapist carrying out pre fight treatment,be warned...its very hard work!!!!
