Manufacturers Strive For Operational Excellence With Benchmarking Assessment
The Manufacturing Institute (TMI) is helping manufacturing companies to work towards achieving operational excellence with the help of its Benchmarking Assessment, which provides an independent and standardised analysis of company performance.
Operational Excellence Assessors from TMI undertake a comprehensive on-site assessment that incorporates a review of a company's facilities and improvement efforts, as well as meetings with key individuals to understand products. Special attention is also given to the company's level of lean understanding and application of lean principles, systems and tools.
Using the Shingo Model assessment scale and scoring mechanism to evaluate levels of performance, the Benchmarking Assessment covers areas such as whether the company has a clear strategic vision with goals and objectives linked to guiding principles, the effective implementation of systems to drive business performance and ideal behaviours and much more.
Following the review, TMI's assessors will provide the company with a comprehensive and structured report outlining strengths and opportunities for improvement based on the assessment criteria.
Noel Hennessy, continuous improvement director at Lake Region Medical, which was awarded Shingo Bronze Medallion in June 2012, said: "In September 2010 we invited the Manufacturing Institute over to carry out a two day benchmarking analysis. We were literally blown away with the comprehensive report produced, which covered every area of the plant and managed to capture clearly where our strengths and opportunities were.
"I am 100% sure that without the support and direction of the Manufacturing Institute we would not have been in a position to challenge for the Shingo Prize," he said.
The Shingo Prize Model provides companies with a blueprint to achieve operational excellence that can propel it through levels of transformation and towards building a solid foundation for deep cultural change. For companies striving to achieve operational excellence, this Benchmarking Assessment provides a unique platform from which to make meaningful improvements to their existing practices.
The Manufacturing Institute is an independent charity founded to inspire, educate and improve companies and employees within the sector. Over the last decade, the organisation has helped over 9,000 manufacturers to improve productivity and delivered performance improvements.
