| Many Brits Turning To Camping For The Good Old British HolidayBritons do not have to jet off to find a great escape, more and more holidaymakers are turning to the good old British holiday and staying put on this beautiful Island for their annual holiday.
The same desire to lounge on the beaches, paddle in the sea and enjoy the amusements which was a typical seaside holiday in the UK in the 1950s stays the same, the similarity ends there, holidays then are quite different from holidays enjoyed today, simply because the past 50 years has seen huge changes in tastes and expectations. In the 1950s cheap international flights had not been introduced and many holiday resorts of the Mediterranean and further afield had not been developed, thus Britons enjoyed their holiday in their home country. The British holidaymaker tended to visit resorts in their own area, such as Brighton, Blackpool, Devon and Cornwall which to them seemed to be quite exotic. Staying on a holiday park which is now very popular with holidaymakers in the UK would have been unknown, especially to families in the 1950s when holiday accommodation was far more rigid. Devon and Cornwall have always been a popular migration for families in the UK, hotels in those days were only affordable to the well off, thus families usually stayed in bed and breakfasts, of course Cornwall caravan parks were available, but very unlike the luxury holiday parks of today. Years ago caravans were nothing like the modern static caravans of today, they were cramped, tiny, and lacked a WC, in fact washing and toilet facilities were basic and communal, also campsites in Cornwall and Devon in the 1950s were sometimes basic, despite this, families travelled with other families to the seaside on coaches or trains, in fact a typical example at that time were the holiday camps, of which the most famous were Butlins and Pontins. Unlike a modern day holiday on maybe a Caravan park Cornwall holiday parks were so different in the 1950s while families stayed in their own chalets, the rest of the holiday was communal, holidaymakers ate together in large halls, competitions were run on a daily basis such as knock knees, glamorous granny and many more, and the British holidaymaker simply loved it. A spokesman for Wooda Farm Holiday Park located in North Cornwall on the border with Devon said, “of course holiday parks have changed over the years, they have had to, to compete with cheap foreign holidays in the sun, British tourism can be proud that they have promoted holidays in the UK and wooed the holidaymaker back to these shores, whether it is holidaying in a hotel, guest house, a Devon caravan park or one in Cornwall, it all comes down to the same thing the UK does offer the holidaymaker the best of British”. The representative for Wooda Farm Holiday Park went on to say “we at Wooda welcome holidaymakers to our park, and offer some of the best holiday accommodation money can buy, we are a family run and owned holiday park in Cornwall guaranteeing excellent facilities for camping in Cornwall, also luxury static caravans for hire. Throughout both Devon and Cornwall the holidaymaker can choose the best, either a campsite Devon or our park in Cornwall either way a great time will be had by all”.
