Slim pickings for hybrid vehicle customers in new car market

Only 2% of new vehicles will be equipped with hybrid power plants, report reveals.

Sept. 27, 2012 - PRLog -- With production of personal vehicles set to hit an all-time high of 80 million units in 2012, you’d be forgiven for thinking that a large proportion of that number – made up of cars and light trucks – would now make use of green and economical hybrid technology, particularly with the savings it can bring to both individuals and businesses.

However, a new study by The Worldwatch Institute has revealed the worrying statistic that a mere 2% of those 80 million new vehicles are set to be equipped with hybrid technology.

UK Fuel Card’s Managing Director Sean Dwyer thinks this statistic is in dire need of improvement. ‘It’s ridiculous that so few hybrid cars are making their way onto the market’ says Sean.

‘Not only are hybrid vehicles more environmentally friendly than exclusively petrol or diesel engined vehicles; they’re more economical, too.’

‘Lots of our fleet customers are beginning to look into using hybrid vehicles in their fleet, and the fact that they have so few to choose from is a travesty, really.’

‘I’d really expect to see that statistic improve dramatically over the next few years – not least due to increasing government incentives to encourage the use of plug-in cars and vans.’
