CMAT 2012@ 10 days to AICTE CMAT: An analysis of exam pattern

Sept. 19, 2012 - PRLog -- As preparation for the AICTE CMAT exam for the 2013-15 session, which is beginning on September 27, 2012, reaches its last leg, this article, analysing in detail CMAT 2012, will help aspirants understand various facts related to the types of questions. The CMAT was first conducted in February 2012.

The CMAT examination is divided into four sections -- quantitative techniques & data interpretation, logical reasoning, language comprehension and general awareness. Each section consists of 25 questions. With 4 marks for each correct answer, the maximum marks are 400. For each wrong answer, 1 mark is deducted. The duration of the exam is 180 minutes. The difficulty level of the first examination was easy to moderate.

Let us have a look at the detailed section-wise analysis of the exam:

Quantitative aptitude & data interpretation
The section was of easy to moderate difficulty level. Questions were single and not based on sets. A few questions were slightly tricky. The topics from which the questions were selected were arithmetic (ratios, mixtures, work, averages, profit & loss, basic statistics, etc to be specific), number properties, probability and counting principles with an odd question in geometry and derivatives (i.e. maxima –minima). Questions on data interpretation (table and pie-chart) required basic calculation skills.

Logical Reasoning
The section was a mix of the topics from arrangements (linear, seating, sequencing & arranging with conditions) and coding. The other questions were based on statement-conclusion, logical puzzle, numerical puzzle, Venn Diagram, true/false statements, visual reasoning, etc. Questions on verbal reasoning were based on syllogisms and critical reasoning. The difficulty level was on the easier side.

Language comprehension
This section was also on the easier side. The reading comprehension passages were short ones of two-three lines followed by questions. Most of the questions were based on words or phrases. The vocabulary questions were on synonyms & antonyms, fill in the blanks, idioms, etc. The section also had critical reasoning questions of the average difficulty level.

General awareness
This section was tricky for those who were not updated on current affairs. Otherwise, most of the questions were solvable. The questions were on current affairs, science, biology, political history, political geography and arts & letters.

CMAT September-October 2012 will be a computer-based exam conducted over a window of five days, from September 27 to October 1, 2012. Around 60,000 candidates have registered for the exam.
