-- A certain study has been made about the useful benefits of the popular drug Botox. Later, researchers found out that Botulinum Toxin or commonly known as Botox can actually have a significant easing effect on tremors caused by Multiple Sclerosis. It is said that this particular drug can decrease the severity of that particular disease.
23 patients suffering from MS have been injected either with Botox or drugs with placebo effect for a period of six months. The researchers then made some video documents to be sure if Botox really made some difference. Dr. Anneke van der Walt says there really was some reduction on the tremors among 40% of the treated patients.
She said, "Anything else that has been tried generally doesn't work very well at all, so an improvement of 40 per cent with a trial drug is very significant, we found also quite importantly that there was improvement in a lot of functional activities for the patients.”
She continued, "The most important of those was probably an improvement in writing and drawing on paper, with an improvement seen of about 30 per cent.” When asked by the reporters, Dr. Anneke said, “Even though it is a small study the results are very significant, we feel that this gives us a platform now to test this in more patients. Hopefully this will translate into a very significant treatment for patients with MS who have this shaking of the upper limbs.”
“From the point of view of a certified plastic surgeon, this one great breakthrough,”
says Dr. Gary Motykie http://motykiemedspa.com/botox-cosmetic/
, a renowned plastic surgeon who also uses Botox for non-invasive procedures. “Since this is a promising discovery, we have got wait for more.”
Some patients claim that they felt like being human again. Some even jokingly say that they have improved their way of life because they are now able to wash the dishes without smashing the plates. This can really change lives for a lot of people especially for those who are suffering from Multiple Sclerosis. Experts hope for the best of Botox as it promises to end the debilitating effects of excessive shaking.
