Aug. 31, 2012 - PRLog -- Encinitas, CA.  October 11, 2012, Join us for the return of our popular Try It You'll Like It, a Hands-On Workshop, taught by 7 skilled artists from the San Dieguito Art Guild.  The workshop is  funded in part by the City of Encinitas Community Grant Program and the Mizel Foundation.

Will be once again be offering a wildly wonderful sought after art workshop program, and some lucky early birds will be offered a variety of workshops.  Youcan expect to have a great  time learning new skills and techniques, share with your friends and find the creative side of yourself.  Classes are held at the : Ecke Building at San Diego Botanic Garden, 230 Quail Gardens Drive, Encinitas,  Space in each class is limited to 8 students. Some classes fill very quickly.

Selections include Out-door, Plein Air ,Watercolor, Chinese Brush ,Clay, Pastel  , Photography, Oil Painting, Watercolor  Instructors will have examples of finished pieces in their medium and give a short demo. All materials will be provided. For most sessions, you will work on a simple "Make it and Take it" project that you can take home. A list of stores and websites where you can purchase additional supplies will be available as well of a list of additional training or lessons in the medium you choose will be available.

Classes offered are: Outdoor Plein Air Watercolor with teacher Char Cee Colosia , will include lesson in drawing and applying paint to watercolor paper.  The impressionists broke away from their studios and discovered the outdoors. In doing this they became aware of light and how it affects objects in nature.

Chinese Brush Painting with teacher Lisa Curry, will provide a brief experience of Chinese Brush Painting using proper technique with brush, ink and rice paper. You will learn to paint bamboo stalks and fish, and leave with a painting on rice paper.

Pastel Class with teacher Joan Grime, you will learn about pastels in general, the different kinds of soft pastel sticks, pastel pencils and the papers used in painting with pastels.  Also, she will demonstrate the techniques in applying pastels. Still life objects set up and will have landscape photos available for inspiration.  Bring an apron, for pastels can be messy.  

Photography Class with teacher Nick Chill, you will have digital photography workshops/lessons. His lessons are usually outdoors, on-location and begin with a sit-down introduction and instruction, followed by shooting and practicing techniques. The session is concluded with a review of the day's images and the techniques used. Bring your own camera.

Oil Painting Class with teacher Darlene Katz, she willl give a short oil painting demonstration of painting from a photo.  This will include mixing colors from a limited palette (paints, brushes and photo supplied). Students will be able to experiment themselves on a small canvas board, with guidance from the instructor.  No previous experience is necessary.

Watercolor Class with teacher Chris Weatherby, will provide a complete a class project that will include a discussion of materials, basic composition and drawing for watercolor, as well as the techniques of under painting, layering and glazing.  Everyone will be working from a photograph provided by the instructor.  Students will receive a small palette and a brush to keep.

Clay Class with teacher  Debbie Schaeffer, will share how satisfying it is to work with a pliable medium and create a 3 dimensional work of art. Each of you will design a container to hold a plant or something else of your choosing. I will fire your pieces in a kiln and we can arrange for you to pick them up in a couple of weeks

Cost: $25, (choose one class,). Thursday, October 11, 2012, Time: Check In: 9:00 - 9:15am (coffee & goodies) and workshop is 9:30am to 12:30.  To secure your space in the workshop: Email  Mo Price at moaceae@roadrunner.comwith your selection. After your class confirmation, checks must be received within 4 mail days to secure your selection.

If you have a financial hardship and would like to take this workshop, please let Mo Price know in confidence. and you will be granted a scholarship (you will be sponsored by the SDAG/Off Track Gallery for the workshop at no charge) with the class descriptions   If you want to be in a class with a friend, please say so in your email and if there is room we will put you together.
