By: www.d1sportsnet.com Some talent, but all the pieces don't quite fit #112: Florida Atlantic Schedule strength: 116 Roster strength: 93 Overall potential: 116 The short on the Owls: Carl Pelini takes over for Howard Schnellenberger at FAU and inherits a team that has an anemic defensive and a weak offense. FAU will rely on its passing game. The Owls likely wide receiver targets will be DeAndre Richardson and Marcus Cunningham. But a suspect defense will doom the Owls. A few wins are possible playing in the Sun Belt and against a mixed slate of non-conference schools. #111: Louisiana Monroe Schedule strength: 100 Roster strength: 111 Overall potential: 107 The short on the WarHawks: So many holes on defense and a young offense that needs to improve is in store this year for Louisiana-Monroe. Qurterback Kolton Browning needs to come into his own and step up the level of play if there is to be any offensive output. A solid running corps, Jryuss Edwards, Centarius Donald, and Mitchell Bailey, helps, but Browning must make smarter play calls to get the team going. A questionable defense will spell trouble for the team as a whole and make the 2012 campaign a long one. #110: Ball State Schedule strength: 98 Roster strength: 117 Overall potential: 104 The short on the Cardinals: How consistent can Ball State be this year? Can QB Keith Wenning cut down on interceptions and turnovers? Can the offensive line improve and give the quarterback the protection necessary to complete plays? What effort will the defense put forth on gameday? A lot of questions need to be answered if the Cardinals are to improve over the 6-6 record last year. #109: North Texas Schedule strength: 109 Roster strength: 103 Overall potential: 102 The short on the Eagles: Can their quarterback, Derek Thompson, cut down on the mental mistakes and stay healthy to become a consistent call player? Will there be an impact player on offense for Thompson to rely on? Those are the key questions for North Texas this season. End
