About An Overview of OpenFlow and SDN with Real-World Cases Short Course:

Increasing efficiency & scalability is top of mind for IT leaders today but in many cases dependencies on the network limit the extent and speed at which cloud implementations can be deployed. Today’s networks lack automation and programmability which prevents cloud solutions from being dynamically delivered to users with minimum increase in operational complexity. Thanks to the Open Networking Foundation (ONF) standardization efforts, Software-Defined Networking (SDN) can now bring a programmability comparable to the compute and storage industries to the network for more agility, flexibility, scalability, security, and more by looking at the network in a new way, yielding better synergies with applications running on it. In this tutorial we will describe the technology, the architectural implications, the benefits, and the prominent use cases in which it is already being applied.

Instructors:

Isabelle Guis, Vice President, Outbound Marketing, Big Switch Networks
Dan Pitt, Ph.D., Executive Director, Open Networking Foundation
Rakesh Saha, Director, Product Management, IBM Systems and Technology Group
Matthew Palmer, Partner, Wiretap Ventures; Co-Editor, SDNCentral.com
Steve Brar, HP Networking, Hewlett-Packard Company

Cloud and big data are the two megatrends of this decade. They will shape the way life science companies and research institutions build infrastructure and handle data, and they are leading to an era where “the data fabric is the next middleware.”

In this conference, we showcase how the Cloud will help new developers build apps to make effective use of petascale systems for a broad range of life science and engineering applications, and make it less of a time, cost and power drain.
