By: Summer Infant The only good thing I can say about this unit is that it does allow me to hear and see my baby. Most of the time. Unless it is broken. Or out of battery power (in which case there is no alarm to let you know that the battery has worn down, a point I will get to later). So I am now on my third unit. Thank goodness I bought this at a reputable retail store that exchanged the broken one for a new unit. (Unfortunately they wouldn't allow me to get a different monitor. I had to get the same one.) Both times, the handheld unit stopped charging. I would plug it into the wall to charge (or use the base) and it just wouldn't charge. So I don't think I just got a lemon. I think it's a problem with the product. THE MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE is that when the battery runs out and the handheld turns off, there is no alarm. Nothing to let you know that the monitor has turned off. MAJOR PROBLEM!!!! The second time my unit broke, it stopped charging in the middle of the night and eventually the battery power went all the way down. When I woke up, it was just off. Obviously this is a very big problem. What is the point of a monitor that can shut off without letting you know??? I don't understand how this has gotten so many positive reviews. I like the talk back and it helped when if I want into the room she would have full fits but I could tell her over the monitor and she would lay right down with no issue... it allso saved her life. my little one is a 26 1/2 week premmie who can not swollow right... so when she is sick she chokes... so being able to put her to bed in a room on her own( this monitor has helped me everytime). so when my old monitor kicked-it ...I had no issues ording from summer again... How ever I am not as pleased this time ... I ordered the monitor and it got here in a 1 1/2 days (great because I dont sleep at all without it) but I opened it and set it up last night and the white noise or whatever you call it was so stroung that I could not even hear her say momma.... so I call the summer company this morning and asked for a replacement ...number one they tried to tell me this never happins(even my old one had some background noise) number two they told me that they would not send me the label till tommorrow.. then I would have to wait for them to get into their warehouse and then send me another one. number three I am in FL they are in CA ( so I asked if I could have it over nighted and make it go faster.. they would not pay for that... so an allmost $250 monitor that i payed extra shipping on in the first place and now I have to pay more... I have a mind just to send it back to amzon.com and go find it local so that if it has an issue I can get a new one same day( the only reson we use Amzon is we have the card and its aways for us to drive for this kinda thing) .. so thats why I gave it a three... this cam is great for the talk back and picture is not that bad either ... I also love the panning seeing how we just put my little one in a toddler bed and she sometimes sleeps on the floor... but if you are going to get this go out on the town so that you can return it in a better time frame if it is not working right... witch I hear is an issue with alot of people ... It is nice to have the battery base, to move the camera quickly and not hunt for an outlet. the zoom is retarded, it's just a digital zoom, so it mearly shows a bigger, more pixelated image. Our biggest problem is the unit sometimes is fine, but often receives interference. Now we live in a townhouse and there are lots of other people around us...so I guess that's the problem. We get wavy lines and funny sounds that can wake me up and night and is annoying to listen to. Not acceptable for a $250 product. It's a shame, because this could be an awesome product.
