Do Not Underestimate The Importance Of Plants

Gardeners would agree that garden plants because of their beauty, are important elements of our human world, for example when we build houses or other buildings, one of the first things that we plan and do is some cultivating and planting surrounding the home.

A garden is the extension of our homes, and although many hours is spent in the home decorating, and refurbishing we never feel the job is done until we have planted trees, garden shrubs, flowers and vegetable to make our houses much nicer on the outside.

So why are plants so important to our very existence? What a lot of people may not know, plants take in carbon dioxide and give out oxygen which we breathe in, and without plants we would not have clean air to breath.  It is hard to take in when we look out at our garden and see beautiful container plants, hanging baskets, and beds of these important plants.

When you are busy in your garden planting those trays of bedding plants, or shrubs, just stop and take a good look at nature and ponder on the following facts.  Plants make food, they are the only organisms that can convert light energy from the sun into food, and therefor plants produce all of the food animals, including people eat.

When animals or humans breathe it is the oxygen that we take out of the air to keep our cells and bodies alive and all this oxygen comes from plants, this is one of the materials that plants produce oxygen gas.

It does not matter how big or small your garden is, be sure that the plants in your garden is the primary habitat for thousands of organisms.  Animals live in or under plants, and they provide shelter and safety for animals.  How often do you see little birds pecking at you’re newly planted plug plants, they hopefully will not destroy the plant itself but are after little grubs, and insects around the soil of the plant.

The roots of plants help hold the soil together, they also help make soil, when they die, their decomposed remains are added to the soil and of course this helps to make the soil rich with nutrients.

The bigger picture of plants of course is they are important sources of products that people use, for example food, fibres for cloth, and more importantly medicines, not forgetting in many parts of the world wood is the primary fuel used by people to cook and heat their homes.
