Baan in Brisbane: is Cordys the solution to Qld Health’s payroll software conundrum?
Dr Jan Baan is currently in Brisbane holding talks on how his BPM software from Cordys will revolutionise business, just as his ERP products did decades ago.
Abominable payroll situation
After KMPG’s June audit into Queensland Health’s payroll system, which was implemented in late 2007, new LNP Health Minister Lawrence Springborg pronounced the project an ‘abomination’
Cordys middleware solution
It’s a challenge Dr Baan is adamant that Cordys can overcome. As the brains behind the renowned Baan ERP software, one of the three global ERP giants in the late seventies, Dr Baan has obvious insight into the workings of ERP systems. He maintains that internet technology’s breakneck evolvement has relegated many traditional ERP systems to dinosaur status and that Cordys is the next-generation BPM ‘middleware’
Chris Spies, CEO of Aptus International Services, recently appointed as Cordys’ implementation partner in Brisbane, explains: “While these ERP systems may still provide a highly efficient means of organising and maintaining data, they are not necessarily able to effectively communicate with the myriads of internet applications and processes that have mushroomed over recent decades. The stored data is essentially ‘treading water’ and the Cordys solution provides a bridge that allows communication between the successful elements of existing ‘behind the scenes’ ERP systems while simultaneously capitalising on the many ‘front end’ applications available on the internet.”
Cordys enters Asia-Pacific
Cordys recently opened its first Australian office in Melbourne, with business process specialist Steve Thomas directing Australia-New Zealand operations. Cordys and Aptus International have identified government, mining, finance and superannuation as sectors in dire need of a means to streamline their complex data streams and processes.
Baan’s Brisbane talks
Dr Baan, as a guest of Aptus International, will be presenting to both the Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) and the Queensland chapter of the Australia Africa Business Council (AABC) to discuss solid ways in which Cordys can aid government and the private sector. He will provide valuable insight into Cordys and how its position as the bridge between old and new technology will allow businesses across all sectors to efficiently and cost-effectively integrate their existing IT investments into the cloud.
About Dr Baan
Jan Baan founded the Baan Company in 1978, which stood second between SAP and Oracle as one of the top three ICT players in the world. He garnered accolades for coups such as providing Boeing with one of the largest ERP deployments in the world, comprising 35,000 users on a single instance. The value of the Baan Company grew from $35 million in the early nineties to a whopping $680 million by 1998. Dr Baan subsequently became a venture capitalist focused on software innovation, being an early investor in WebEx Communications and a backer of Top Tier, sold to SAP for $400 million.
In 2001, together with Theodoor van Donge, the key architect behind the Baan Company’s pioneering ERP solution, Dr Baan founded Cordys. Uniquely, deployment of the Cordys solution is possible on premise or in the cloud and connects three formerly disparate business areas: business process management, integration and composite application development. As such, Cordys successfully combines structured business logic with unstructured information to establish flexible and sustainable business processes that continuously evolve in speed and efficiency.
