English Teacher Discovers A Passion For Gas

English teacher leaves teaching post and re-trains as a gas engineer through Brookhouse Training and secures a full-time role with the National Grid.

July 2, 2012 - PRLog -- English teacher Andy Green leaves teaching behind to develop a trade in the gas industry by re-training though http://www.brookhousetraining.com and finds a full-time role supporting the National Grid.

Andy spent four years in Southeast Asia teaching children English before realising his future was back in England.  Deciding it was time for a career change, and recognising he didn’t want to pursue the use of his sociology qualifications; he decided to re-train in a sector experiencing a renaissance – the gas industry.

Through research on the Internet Andy found Brookhouse Training and signed up to an ACS Gas Engineer course. Andy says: “It was important for me to discover a job that has a sustainable future. Another consideration for me was work experience, I didn’t want to qualify and then be left high and dry with no employment opportunities. Brookhouse Training were the only provider to offer guaranteed work experience, couple that with their successful track-record and it was an opportunity I couldn’t afford to miss.”

James McConnell, director at Brookhouse Training says: “The energy sector really is changing; it’s a forward thinking industry to be part of. Our training is a key component in communicating that change. We don’t just provide training, we provide insight into the industry and share our in-depth knowledge to ensure our future engineers become professionals. Because of this we’re seeing more and more professionals looking to re-train within the gas sector. Training with us is an investment in a very bright future and our success comes down to being able to demonstrate that.”

Claire Curtis Thomas, IGEM (Institution of gas Engineers and Managers) Chief Executive said: “Joining the business now has never been a better time. It is expected to be an exciting time for the Gas Industry. Utilities and energy providers are moving with the times. Most providers, as well as the National Grid, have teams in place working on products and innovations which will revolutionise the industry.

Andy has now completed his training and work placement and soon after qualifying was offered a role within Huddersfield company Gas Care. Andy will be supporting Gas Care replace, repair and up-grade gas meters throughout the North of England for the National Grid.
