-- FORT COLLINS, CO – JUNE 28,2012 – Linton Elementary/Poudre Valley School District is taking the lead for student health by participating in a nationwide wellness initiative. Community-focused and fun, Fuel Up to Play 60 is activating schools and communities to support school wellness initiatives, good nutrition and physical activity, which help educate students and curb obesity. In partnership with the National Dairy Council (NDC) and the National Football League (NFL), Linton Elementary and its students are recruiting friends, parents, teachers and business and community leaders to join them in pledging to adopt healthier behaviors, such as choosing foods encouraged by the United States Department of Agriculture, which has also joined the initiative, and committing to 60 minutes of physical activity everyday.
Linton Elementary will host Fuel Up to Play 60 with the support of our Principal, Kristin Stolte, the school’s enthusiastic wellness committee, our NEW student wellness team, and our school PTO, Linton elementary school is hosting an event we are sure will be enjoyed by ALL!
Begin your morning at 9:00am at Linton Elemetary, 4100 Caribou Dr , Fort Collins with a leisure 1 mile or 2 mile run/walk route which begins at the school and loops around English Ranch park. Kids and Adults of all ages, including those in strollers, are welcome but for the safety of our participants, please leave your scooters, bicycles and 4-legged pets at home. Post run/walk snacks will be provided too. Games, obstacle courses and activities will follow the race at 9:30am. All games and activities are being designed around physical activity and nutrition. Prizes will be drawn for those attending our other activities and earning special “exercise minutes”!
Most of the proceeds will be returned to Linton’s Wellness committee and PTO to be used to support the schools overall fitness goals, healthy nutrition plans and other activities designed for the 2012-2013 school year.
