I hesitated for months before ordering a Kindle Fire. I felt it would just be a duplication of services since I have a desktop and a laptop. But, I gave in...and I couldn't be happier. It is so easy to travel with or just throw it in my purse. The downloads of books is super quick and the number of free books is truly surprising.

The ability to control the font, lightening, etc..has made reading a breeze. Before the Kindle, my eyes would always bother me after a few chapters, even with my magnifiers that I have to use for reading. Now, it has basically stopped! Plus, I don't have to worry about turning on a light when in bed in order to read...the screen is perfect!

The number of apps is great, esp. the number of free ones. I'm sure that many feel they are lacking...but, at my age, they are ample. The stream of videos or TV programs is quite crisp and clear.

There are a few things that are lacking but for the price, it is a no brainer. I do wish that there was the ability to transfer music in the WMA format without having to install a program to convert them into mp3's.

My Kindle Fire worked fine for almost 30 days from the day it arrived. Then suddenly, a problem. I turned on the WiFi, the symbol turned orange, but it would not connect to my router. I tried to turn the WiFi off, but it would not go to the Off symbol so the WiFi symbol stayed orange, even though it was not connected.
I called Customer Service. We spent an hour and a half doing everything possible to troubleshoot. We shut down and rebooted the Kindle several times after doing adjustments suggested by the Cust.Svc. Rep. We shut down and rebooted my computer, modem, and router. It still would not connect. We reset to Factory Settings...nothing. I should mention that we also tested my regular Kindle, which did connect to the WiFi with no problem, and I use Netflix through my router with no problem, so it was obvious that it was not my router.

The rep finally gave up and said that she would have to refer this problem to their software people, who would call me back in 2-5 business days. I wasn't happy with that, but it was the "policy" and she wasn't budging.
6 business days later, and actually 9 days later due to the Memorial Day holiday weekend, I checked in with Customer Service, who said this was taking longer than usual, but the software people would be calling me.
1 week later, still nothing. I called Customer Service again, explaining that I had been waiting over 2 weeks for someone to resolve my problem. This time, the rep said he would send a replacement Kindle Fire immediately, which he did, and I now have a working Kindle Fire again.

I have to say that I was truly disappointed and angry with the way this was handled. I have had better customer service from Amazon when they sent me a soap dish instead of the toothbrush holder I ordered---a $9.00 item! They sent the correct item right out, told me to keep the soap dish, and gave me a $5.00 Amazon credit!
I'm hoping I have no further trouble with the new Kindle they sent me, because regrettably I know what kind of service I will get.

I bought this refurbished Kindle on a deal for $30.00 off the usual $170 and simply put there is no difference from a brand new $200 one. This product is great. Its like a mini computer as well as a reading device and also keep the kids occupied with games. Bottom line for me is there is no reason to spend $200 for a brand new Kindle when you can get the same quality for $170 OR if you are lucky like me another Gold Box Deal.
