In Shadow of Obama, Small Press Experiences over 1,000% Increase in Amazon Sales

June 12, 2012 - PRLog -- Since before Michelle Obama’s highly anticipated first title, “American Grown,” debuted at the end of May, small book publisher Red Rock Press has seen a remarkable uptick in Amazon sales for its own title on the subject: “A White House Garden Cookbook” by food journalist and Boston Globe contributor Clara Silverstein. The small press, which runs on a core staff of just three people, experienced a 700% increase in Amazon sales from April to May, and a 1,200% increase in sales from April to just the first week and half of June.

“We’re obviously very excited about this here in the office,” said Publisher and Sales Director Richard Barth. Creative Director Ilene Barth added, “I knew we had picked a winner when we decided to publish ‘A White Garden Cookbook’ back in 2010. Americans love the idea of the garden and that sentiment has not dissipated in the 3 years since Mrs. Obama’s unprecedented renovation of the long-neglected garden.”

With the recent release of an eBook version of “A White House Garden Cookbook: Healthy Ideas from the First Family for Your Family” (available for Kindle, Nook, and most eReaders at http://www.CommunityGardenRecipes.com for just $6.39), Red Rock Press hopes to see its first significant gains in the world of electronic publishing. Given the design-heavy nature of most of their catalog, it’s still yet to be seen whether the growth in print sales will be reflected in digital sales, but hopes are high.
