Local Organizations Nominated For Belle Tire Cares Award

June 6, 2012 - PRLog -- Allen Park, Mich.,– Belle Tire is giving back to Michigan schools, groups and organizations that are working to directly impact the lives of children through their new charitable giving  program, Belle Tire Cares. Eligible organizations have a chance to win funds to provide worthwhile experiences, programs, services, materials and supplies that will enrich the lives of the children they serve.  “Belle Tire is committed to giving back to the communities in which we do business. We are proud to support the youth of Michigan.” says Don Barnes, Jr., President of Belle Tire.

Organizations can be nominated for the Belle Tire Cares program by visiting www.belletire.com/community. Submissions will be accepted through November 15, 2012 and monthly finalists will be placed on a poll for the community’s vote. The poll will be open to the public for 2 weeks, during which time the organizations are encouraged to promote the contest. The group with the most votes will receive the 1st Prize of $1,000. 2nd and 3rd place will receive $500 and $250, respectively.
The chosen organizations for the month of June are The Downriver Council for the Arts, Wes Leonard Heart Team and the Wolverine World Wide Family YMCA.
The Downriver Council for the Arts intends to use the funds from Belle Tire to support their Summer Day Camps for Children who would otherwise be unable to attend for financial reasons. Classes are available for youth ages 6-12 as well as teenagers in a wide variety of areas including Performing Arts, Earth, Cartooning & Animation, Slimy Arts & Sciences, Drawing & Painting and the Fine Arts.

The Wes Leonard Heart Team has made it their mission to honor Wes’s life using a team approach, combining the efforts of his loved ones and other existing foundations in the pursuit of a common goal. The team is committed to honoring the children who have lost their lives to Sudden Cardiac Arrest and preventing other families and friends from feeling the pain of losing their loved ones. Currently, The Wes Leonard Heart Team has raised enough money to give 62 Automated External Defibrillators (AED) to schools in Michigan and have also certified over 200 people in CPR. Funds received from the Belle Tire Cares program will be used to purchase an AED for one of the 25 schools currently on the waiting list.  

The Wolverine World Wide Family YMCA is a cause-driven organization that ensures members of the community have the opportunities they need to stay healthy. They bring families, neighbors and friends together in a motivated and fun environment. Funds awarded by Belle Tire would be used to support a Youth Community Garden, which is completely dependent on sponsors and donations. The children tend the gardens throughout the summer daily. The produce that is picked from the garden is used to supplement an on-site Food Pantry and to teach the kids healthy food habits.
