| Rubio’s® World Oceans Day Celebration Continues the Party with Community Events and GiveawaysFans Invited to Share Their Stories, Play at the Beach and Win a Mexican Hotel Stay Grand Prize
By: Rubio's Researchers say that the world’s oceans are currently at a tipping point – including potential for depletion of some of the most popular seafood populations – and that the actions taken to protect the oceans throughout the next 10 years will determine the state of the oceans for the next 10,000 years. With this in mind, Rubio’s works to stand up for the ocean year round by sourcing certified sustainable seafood whenever possible, recycling plastic and glass bottles in nearly 50 percent of restaurants, and using eco-friendly plates and to-go containers. Rubio’s is also always looking for new ways to give back to the ocean and to grow its green initiatives. “The ocean has always been incredibly special to me,” said Ralph Rubio founder of Rubio’s. “Growing up in Southern California, I spent my free time at the ocean, hanging out with my friends, having fun and creating memories that will last a lifetime. At Rubio’s, it is our love for the ocean and our desire to protect it that inspired us to launch our Stand Up for the Ocean initiative. We encourage our fans to visit our Facebook page and share how they stand up for the ocean, come to our restaurant to get a free reusable tote bag, and join us at our beach party and cleanup. Rubio’s family-friendly World Ocean’s Day plans include: • The Share Your Story Facebook Contest – Ocean enthusiasts, supporters, fans and friends are invited to find their inner story teller and share how they stand up for the ocean on Rubio’s Facebook fan page (http://facebook.com/ • Charity Support – Additionally, for every story submitted as part of the Share Your Story Facebook contest, Rubio’s will donate $1 to the Surfrider Foundation’s San Diego chapter, a nonprofit working to protect the world’s oceans and beaches. • Reusable Tote Bag Giveaway – In the spirit of inspiring Rubio’s fans to become more eco-friendly and reducing that amount of plastic that ends up in our ocean, guests are invited to stop by their local store on June 8 to receive a complimentary reusable tote bag – no purchase necessary. • Beach Party and Cleanup – On June 9, Rubio’s is throwing a party in its hometown of San Diego. The community is invited to South Cardiff State Beach – Seaside Reef to join Ralph Rubio and the Rubio’s team for a day of complimentary surf lessons, bocce ball tournaments, sand castle building contests, face painting and badminton. The Rubio’s taco truck will also be hitting the beach to offer the party goers the opportunity to sample tacos including fan favorites: The Original Fish Taco®, Salsa Verde Pan-Seared Shrimp Taco, and the Grilled Chicken Taco. The beach cleanup will commence at the end of the party where the Rubio’s team, party goers and volunteers will take trash bags and supplies to clean up the beach, ensuring that no trash is left behind. The Rubio’s “Stand up for the Ocean” campaign and ongoing love for the ocean can be seen in its dedication to creating craveable seafood recipes, which began when Ralph Rubio took his first bite of a fish taco in Mexico more than three decades ago. Realizing he had tasted something truly unique, he began to develop his own recipe. The creation of The Original Fish Taco recipe became the basis for everything Rubio’s stands for today: memorable and complex flavors in chef-crafted recipes that feature the freshest, highest quality ingredients.
