Art in Science: Who Knew Slides Could Be Technical And Great?

A mission of mercy for the spiritless audiences of technical presentations. A new remedy for the blasé high tech slide-show is welcomed by the engineering community, pledging to rid the world of painful, boring, “lite” presentations.

May 29, 2012 - PRLog -- Tapping into her quarter century of engineering management expertise, with a penchant for unconventional tactics, Auxilium senior consultant Susan de la Vergne delivers a unique perspective on the normally mundane experience of engineering presentations. By turns, she’ll pick examples of complex ideas, convert them into thought-provoking visual depictions of the information by integrating pictures with data, and then reach into the recesses of creativity and emotional intelligence by examining the nuances of developing well designed slides.

A mainstay of the continuing education circuit for the past 10 years, communication awareness and excellence has been a calling for Susan since majoring and doing her graduate work in English and writing.  This coupled with her years of experience in high tech, lends itself well to her new “Slides for Technical Presentations” course which departs from the common approach. Susan says, “Every engineering presentation has slides with it that need to be efficient and information-rich to convey complex information.  The class is lively, practical, and relevant, and participants learn dozens of techniques and practices that can be put to use right away.”  Susan also explores the ideas and recommendations of graphics guru Edward Tufte and recipients receive reprints of his article, “The Cognitive Style of PowerPoint.”

“Susan provided great ideas for presenting technical information. As a result of her input, BPA engineers, who manage technical R&D projects, were able to effectively distill complex information and engage executive council members. There was a marked improvement from previous year’s presentations that can be directly attributed to her input. Great seminar, and even better suggestions!”
