May 23, 2012 - PRLog -- Alignex, the Midwest’s leader in manufacturing innovation, is partnering with Vermeer Manufacturing to present the CAD Collaboration Event on June 8, 2012, at Hyatt Regency Denver Tech Center‎ in Denver. The event simulates a Vermeer engineering department complete with a server, workstations, multiple projectors and an actual engineering data set. Attendees will experience an entire engineering team step a Vermeer product through a complete Engineering Change Order (ECO).

The event is designed to be both entertaining and informative. Attendees will see concurrent design activity involving 3D SolidWorks® models, 3D imported CAD data, 2D AutoCAD drawings, Simulation (FEA), as well as revision change management and real-time notification. The team will initiate the project, complete it and the vault data - providing a cohesive, beneficial and applicable learning experience for everyone involved in the design process. The event will track the following:

The Project Manager, selected at random from the audience, will develop the ECO through the design and validation process, on to manufacturing (CAM) and the creation of a service manual – using SolidWorks® to manage the process and secure data.

The Designer/Draft Person will use SolidWorks® to open large assemblies in – allowing the software’s intuitive controls to design the part more quickly and more accurately than ever before.

The Mechanical Engineer will use SolidWorks Simulation (inside the design window) to optimize the design with Linear Statistics and Fatigue Analysis - reducing excess material and maintaining a high safety factor.

The Manufacturing Engineer will continue operating in the SolidWorks® design window to develop the tools and routing parts necessary for manufacturing. In addition, bidirectional communication works with design to ensure modifications are made – eliminating the costly and time consuming need to start over.

The Technical Documentation Publisher will use SolidWorks® Enterprise PDM workflow and automation tools to manage the process and secure the project’s most important asset – the company’s data.

“This is a one-of-a kind engineering reality show based on the needs of manufacturing powerhouse, Vermeer. When their vastly popular HG365E Horizontal Grinder’s suspension system required a redesigned component and the outsourced manufacturer was no longer in business, Vermeer wanted to explore the viability of bringing the process in-house,” explains Steve Keinath, President of Alignex. “Alignex was able to fill a critical void and provide Vermeer with a highly effective solution. As a result, we created the CAD Collaboration Event to share our accomplishments with the manufacturing community and bring collaborative engineering to life.”

The CAD Collaboration Event is a four hour event that includes a break for a complimentary lunch. The Devner, CO, event will take place on June 8, 2012, from 9 AM to 1 PM at the Hyatt Regency Denver Tech Center‎.
