Making The Most Of Today's Technology

Anything which reduces workloads in this day and age is good news, as more and more of us have too much on our plate. This handy article looks at how new technology can help in organizing your office workload.

May 16, 2012 - PRLog -- It’s a fact of life today that most of us have too much on our plate. We multi-task, cooking dinner whilst helping out with homework, hanging out the washing whilst organising the babysitter on the phone and generally doing more than one thing at once. But you may be surprised to find out how many of these daily tasks your phone can help with.

Whilst we’re a long way short of seeing your mobile phone peg out your smalls, the digital dictation function on the Iphone 4s called Siri can be one way of reducing your workload.

But first of all you have to understand what it can do, and to do that you have to have some free time, so it all becomes a bit of a vicious circle trying to find the time to learn about the things which are going to give you more time. And the same goes for all manner of domestic appliances.  Does your cooker have a rotisserie function ? Do you know how to use it ? Do you understand the various different settings on your microwave ? Does your freezer have an auto defrost or is your oven self-cleaning ?  Sadly like most people, you probably don’t know the answers to these questions, such is the pace of life that we lead these days.

How many settings on your camera do you actually use ? Even the most basic point-and-shoot digital camera comes with a myriad of different icons, relating to where the sun is, how close you want to be and what you had for dinner last night.

So back to the Iphone 4 and it’s digital dictation service, called Siri.  It’s a fascinating bit of software which allows you to speak into your phone, and have the phone perform functions for you.  Being billed as a virtual assistant, Siri will dial a number, send a text, make appointments in your calendar and remind you to do things at a certain time. Unlike traditional voice recognition software though, Siri actually understands human speech, and will understand you more the more you use it.

In other businesses technology is advancing at an equally steady pace.  Gone are the days of the typing pool, nowadays many executives simply dictate their notes to an audio file (you could do this with Siri on your iphone) and then send the files off to be transcribed.  Overnight your documents are typed up neatly and sent back to you as Word documents leaving you one less thing to worry about as you start the day.

One such service is Shertalk, a branch of leading High Court Enforcement company Shergroup, and many believe this is the way forward. Remember the movies of the 1950’s depicting the future ? How we would simply talk to the toaster and it would dispense perfectly browned wholewheat ?

It might have been far-fetched at the time, but intelligent voice recognition is here to stay and the day you walk in the door and ask the microwave what’s for dinner isn’t so far away after all!
