Hackers shut down Web site of popular conservative senior advocacy group, AMAC

May 15, 2012 - PRLog -- BOHEMIA, NY, May 15 – Hackers have shut down the Web site of the Association of Mature American Citizens [www.amac.us], which bills itself as the conservative alternative to the AARP.

Dan Weber, president and founder of AMAC, said that he has a tech team dealing with the situation and that they believe the Web site is under attack by individuals who used special programs to generate overwhelming Internet traffic at the site.  “We are hoping to get back up and running again within the next 24 hours.”  

He said that the authorities have been notified, but admitted those responsible for the cyber-attack may never be found, considering the fact that this kind of crime has been growing exponentially over the past decade.  

“We do not know whether our distinctly conservative perspective in advocating for the rights of older Americans is linked to this malicious disruption, but the attack coincides with a massive new ‘talk radio’ campaign.  Local and national conservative program hosts, including the likes of Sean Hannity, have been promoting AMAC membership and one can only wonder if disgruntled mischief makers might be trying to silence us,” said Weber commented..
