By: Jellypark A useful article discussing these points http://www.helium.com/ However, Claire Keay, the creator of Paper Dreams believes that this does not need to be the case. Claire, who used to work for many years as a children's Nursery Nurse, says " I can see where the problems can lie and I do agree that unsupervised and excessive use of technology can have a detrimental effect, yet used properly new technology can bring a new rich level to children's play. "Imaginary play is key to young children's development, it gives them the chance to explore and understand the world around them. You can't replace the experience of a young child grabbing a cardboard box and jumping inside to pretend it is a car or they are a spaceman - nor would you want to. However new technology, like the Paper Dreams app, can also be used stimulate their imagination even further and encourage them to do more. "I am passionate about children's learning, about helping them to develop their imagination and creativity. I wanted Paper Dreams to be about really stimulating these areas...as well as simply being good fun to read!" Paper Dreams has just been released in the iTunes App store and can be downloaded onto iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. It is an interactive story for children aged from 3 to 9 which explores and encourages imagination. A little girl picks up her pencil and as she starts to doodle she begins to daydream… From a fairy to an astronaut she draws herself as being something different every day, drawing what she clothes she wears and then where she would go. This interactive book lets you dress the character and then explore the beautiful scene as she imagines going off on an adventure on each day of the week. But who does she want to be on the last day?! Each page has interactive features and surprises to find along with some atmospheric sound effects. The story is simple but exciting as the little girl's imagination starts to flow. At the end of the story it states, "A pencil and a scrap of paper mixed with a little imagination. So who are you going to be today?" A direct challenge to the child to go and grab a pencil and start doodling their day dreams too!
