April 27, 2012 - PRLog -- When recruiting SMG Solutions closely filter our applicants making sure we only have the best quality individuals with the right amount of dedication and drive to push our company into the massive growth we are expecting over the next year!

With the company recently taking over a brand new client! we are now working within the exiting world of online film and media! this is set to be the biggest year yet for the company!

We believe that meeting a variety of individuals with different professional backgrounds/educational qualifications and life experience gives us the best chance of finding the quality people we would like to work with.

The most important aspect of securing a position with a company like ourselves is the interview! First impressions are of course important and no matter what background you have personality and other contributing factors will shine through when meeting a manager of the company, these factors can in effect override all else.

We have a few tips on how to get ahead and give a brilliant interview! - even those with little experience or qualifications in the right areas can be the most sought after candidate, especially with a company like SMG Solutions who are prepared to provide one on one training and support for those 'stand out' individuals.

You can have the perfect resume and a compelling cover letter and show up for the job interview ready to impress, but get ready to forgo the job offer if one of these things comes into play.

FIRSTLY- always smile! this is one of the most important things we at SMG Solutions look for, We want to work with positive, happy and influential individuals- A smile is welcoming, and contagious!

1. Being late. Arriving late to an appointment is often an instant deal-breaker.Managers assume that you're on your best behavior while interviewing, so if you're late, they'll assume you'll be unreliable. Always allow more time than you'll need to get to your interview, so that you have time in case something goes wrong.

2.Not showing enthusiasm. A candidate who seems lackluster or unenthusiastic about the opportunities being offered will almost certainly become an individual who isn't engaged or exited about working with the company. company's want candidates who seem committed and excited, so don't hesitate to articulate your interests and aspirations.

3.Being rude to the receptionist. Don't just be on your best behavior with your interviewer; make sure that you're polite to everyone you encounter. Many interviewers will ask the receptionist what they think. If you were rude or arrogant, that's usually a deal-breaker.

4.Sharing inappropriately. Resist the impulse to talk about how much you hated your old company, or the fact that you dated your boss, or your family's medical problems. Employers want to know that you understand professional boundaries and have a sense of discretion.

5.Pay attention to your appearance. Think your appearance doesn’t count? Think again! The trend may be for business casual, but it’s still proper business etiquette to wear a suit.
The company wants the best person to represent the business, scruffy and overly casual individuals usually don’t fit the description.

6.Fidget, bite your nails, drum your fingers. Most company's are looking for confidence, especially if you’re expected to meet with clients or give presentations.

7.Talk on your mobile phone or read text messages. As soon as you enter the building you are being watched by somebody, be it in the reception or elsewhere. To not turn your mobile phone or pager off for an appointment shows you are not fully engaged in the environment. Your interviewer should have your complete attention.

8.Discuss money, time off or benefits unless an offer has been made. Though this is probably what you’re thinking about the most, you want the company to think it’s the least of your concerns. Securing a position should be on your mind first and foremost, not the pay or vacation time. A company will not wish to work with an individual that only cares about what the company can offer them!.

9.Cut short the interview for another appointment. A company wont expect to be the only point of expressed interested by yourself, they will however expect you to block out enough time to give a complete interview. Leaving to go to another appointment or mentioning you don't have much time as you have to be elsewhere is rude and tells the company they are not a priority.

10.Act as if they need you more than you need them.If a company is holding appointments there is a high chance You’re not the only candidate. If you act smug or make the hiring agent feel inferior you won’t be asked back.

11.Forget to shake hands. An interviewer will be a senior member of a company they will be looking for a good, firm handshake. Don’t overlook this important detail.

12.Ask questions. A company wants to know you’re interested in a opportunity with them. If you don’t ask any questions, you give the impression you don’t care or don't really understand what has been said to you, most interviewers will give you the option to ask questions at the end of the appointment so be prepared- and remember to make the questions relevant.

FINALLY- Afraid you didn't make the best impression? or are you sure that you aced the interview? Either way, be sure to follow up with a thank you note reiterating your interest in the position and the company thank the interviewer for there time in meeting you and express how nice it was to meet anyone else you were in contact with during your time at the building, this is the best way to make sure that you are remembered!
