By: Indiana Health Care Association Hundreds of long term care professionals packed the Indiana Convention Center during the 2012 Indiana Health Care Association (IHCA) Convention & Expo (April 24-26). Convention attendees included nurses, nursing assistants, health facility administrators, clinical staff, and others working in nursing homes and other long term care facilities in Indiana, as well as representatives of companies providing goods and services essential to the daily operations of long term care facilities. The convention provided attendees an opportunity to be better prepared for the challenges of caring for an aging population and to stay up-to-date on key regulatory changes and new technologies in the industry. The theme of the 2012 IHCA Convention, “Spotlight on Long Term Care,” highlighted the importance of showcasing the consistent commitment to quality and customer service by long term care providers. Special guests at the Convention included Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller and Neil Pruitt, Jr., CEO of UHS-Pruitt Corporation and Chair of the American Health Care Association Board of Directors. IHCA and the Indiana Health Care Policy Institute (IHCPI) honored several long term care professionals and volunteers at the convention through scholarships and annual awards. The recipients are as follows: IHCPI Scholarship Recipients: Debra Freel, Social Service Designee scholarship Andrea Collins, Health Facility Administrator/ IHCA Awards Recipients: Kuechenberg Family, Volunteer of the Year, Golden Living Center in Knox Barb Lawrence, Volunteer of the Year, Lakeland Skilled Nursing and Rehab in Angola Cole Robert Zeigler, Volunteer of the Year, Brown County Health and Living Community Dorothy Blackwell, Clinical Staff Member of the Year, Golden Living Center in Bloomington Linda Tilley, Stewardship Award, Vernon Manor Children’s Home in Wabash John Velasquez, Administrator of the Year, Miller’s Merry Manor in Marion Morning Breeze Retirement Community and Healthcare Center, Facility of the Year, in Greensburg The recipients of the IHCPI Social Service Designee and Health Facility Administrator/ “The greatest resources our long term care providers have are the staff and volunteers in their facilities who provide high quality front line care,” said Scott Tittle, President of IHCA. “I want to congratulate all of the IHCPI scholarship and IHCA annual award winners for all that they do for our profession, residents, and families.” The Indiana Health Care Association is the state’s largest trade association and advocacy group representing for-profit and not-for-profit nursing homes, as well as assisted living communities, adult foster care and adult day services. The IHCA provides education, information, and advocacy for health care providers, consumers, and the workforce on behalf of its members. The core purpose of the Indiana Health Care Policy Institute is to further the knowledge, education, information, and understanding in the areas of health care, wellness, and services to the aged and chronically ill. The IHCPI provides financial support to individuals seeking to improve skills in the area of workforce, education, and training.
