Debt Local Opposes Debt Management Firms Which Cold Call

April 23, 2012 - PRLog -- Debt management company Debt Local has come out in support of the Office of Fair Trading’s (OFT) recent warning to debt management companies to stop using cold calling to win customers.


•   The OFT has revealed that in 2011, complaints about unscrupulous debt management companies spiralled by 18%, from 463 complaints in 2012 to 546 in 2011

•   The OFT issued warnings to 129 debt management companies in September 2010 – and closed down 62 debt advice firms between 2010 and 2011

•   The Ombudsman has found in favour of more than half the complaints made against debt management companies in 2011 – and many complaints were about cold calling or unsolicited emails offering debt management services

•   The OFT has taken to task debt management companies which provide their clients with debt solutions unsuited to their specific needs – as well as companies whose fees eat into the credit payments intended to repay the debt.
