V.O.T.E. (Voice Of The Endangered) Single “When You Coming Home” Speaks For The Voiceless

April 16, 2012 - PRLog -- Speaking for those whose voices often go unheard, the musical collective V.O.T.E (Voice Of The Endangered), hailing from Queens, New York City, lends its own talents and voices to the powerful single, “When You Coming Home,” released April 12, 2012, with all revenue going directly to VFW.  The single leads the collective’s upcoming EP, Freedom of Speech, to be released in early May.

“When You Coming Home,” the EP’s flagship song, tells the heartbreaking tale of the pain a soldier’s family experiences during his extended absence. Told from the perspective of a son forced to grow up too fast when his father is deployed to Iraq, “When You Coming Home” details the full spectrum of emotion befalling the families that are left behind — confusion, anger, uncertainty and inconsolable loss.

From missing everyday milestones like baseball games, to the pains of adjusting to a new normal (“Now and then I still peek through the curtains, but there’s nobody there.”), to the larger questions plaguing families  who go to sleep at night not knowing if their loved ones are safe or when they will return (“If you end up in heaven, will I be with you then?”), “When You Coming Home” poignantly portrays the myriad of difficulties faced by soldiers’ loved ones everyday. The single serves as a sobering reminder to us of the impact to partners, children and the community when a parent is deployed and the vital role services for veterans and their families play.

“When You Coming Home,” with lyrics rapped over a rock and country influenced guitar backing, highlights the variety of genres influencing V.O.T.E and offers relevance and wide musical appeal to audiences of many musical tastes. This campaign, a partnership between V.O.T.E and VFW, will help enable VFW in its efforts to support veterans and their families by offering aid, assistance, relief and comfort to needy and disabled veterans or members of Armed Forces and their dependents, and the widows and orphans of deceased veterans. The campaign seeks to be the voice for the many unsung heroes at home and abroad who are part of the defense of freedom.

V.O.T.E.’s advocacy is not limited to veterans’ affairs. Covering other hard hitting topics on Freedom of Speech, are “You’ll Never Know,” which tackles the timely subject of bullying and the emotional damage it inflicts, and “Mr. Officer,” a bold narrative standing up to racial profiling that does not shy away from controversial feelings around the tension with law enforcement.
