| IIMK to open satellite campus at Kochi; offer full-time, part-time executive programmesIIM Kozhikode has planned a satellite campus at Kochi to offer full time and part time management programs targeted at middle and senior level executives in the region by end of this year.
By: MBA Universe The new campus which intends to expand offerings of the Institute’s executive education will become functional by the end of the year, the institute said. “As the only IIM in the country having an internationally accredited Executive Management Education Program, the proposed campus at Kochi intends to expand offerings of the Institute in this space by starting full time and part time programs targeted at middle and senior level executives,” The satellite campus will be initially housed within Infopark and will focus primarily on executive education – both long term and short term as well as specialized courses for executives of IT sector. “Initially, the Satellite centre will be offering one year executive MBA program as well as two year part time programs in addition to a large number of short duration Management Development Programs,” the release said. By positioning its Satellite campus focusing on Executive Education in Kochi, IIM Kozhikode aims to support the growth and development of business and industry in the region. “As the Campus will be located inside the Info-park Kochi, it will directly help the executives at the park to hone their management skills thereby enhancing the competitiveness of Indian IT sector and boost the IT sector growth of the State,” the release said. In addition to offering executive training and education programs, the Satellite Campus of IIM Kozhikode at Kochi will also support IIMK’s mission of inclusive education as Institute is planning to incubate a finishing school to offer specialized programs for people belonging to marginalized sections of the society, it added. The initial facility inside Infopark is expected to be functional by October 2012 and expected to to start its offerings before the end of 2012. The Institute also expects to complete the full campus within next three years. IIM Kozhikode as the fifth Indian Institute of Management was founded in 1996 by Government of India in collaboration with Government of Kerala at Calicut. Started with a batch of 42 students, the institute moved into the new hill-top campus in the year 2003, and increased intake to its PGP to 120. In 2005, the intake was increased to 180, and subsequently to 261 in 2008. The institute launched its pioneering Online Executive Education Programmes in the country with one programme of a total of 300 contact hours in 2005, and expanded it to five programmes in 2007-08.
