Republic Services to Serve as Co-Grand Sponsor of NC Beautiful’s 27th Annual Golf Classic

April 10, 2012 - PRLog -- RALEIGH, NC – NC Beautiful has announced that Republic Services will be serving as Co-Grand Sponsor of this year’s NC Beautiful Golf Classic.  The environmental non-profit’s sole fundraiser will be held from July 20-22 at Pinehurst Resort & Spa, one of the world’s finest golf resorts located among the Sandhills of North Carolina.  Republic Services will be joining Duke Energy as Co-Grand Sponsor.    

Republic Services, Inc. is a leading provider of services in the domestic, non-hazardous solid waste industry. The company provides non-hazardous solid waste collection services for commercial, industrial, municipal, and residential customers in 40 states and Puerto Rico.  The company has been a supporter of NC Beautiful’s efforts for over 10 years.  Republic Services’ Area President, Drew Isenhour, says that promoting environmental stewardship is invaluable to protecting our environment.

Chartered in 1967, NC Beautiful was created as part of Governor Dan K. Moore’s pledge to emphasize preserving the state’s physical beauty. The goal behind Governor Moore’s vision was to use the gifts North Carolina was blessed with—its natural resources, scenery, climate, and physical variety—to provide economic and quality of life benefits for the people of North Carolina.  That vision became NC Beautiful’s mission.

In addition to its environmental commitments, Republic Services is also dedicated to educating the public about solid waste management and creating awareness of the serious task of managing society's waste.  The company produces a number of resources about the solid waste industry including websites, CDs, videos, and books.  It’s “Recycle Rosie Curriculum: Understanding the Waste Cycle” is a recycling and environmental education curriculum for grades 4-6.  The company is also a long-time supporter of Earth Preservers, the environmental newsletter for kids, their teachers, and parents. It has been a terrific learning tool in hundreds of classrooms throughout the U.S. since 1992.  NC Beautiful Executive Director, Steve Vacendak, says that it’s this kind of public outreach and education that made Republic Services an ideal sponsor of the NC Beautiful Classic.
