Typically a Datacenter Colocation facility will have many major ISP's located within the facility. These ISP's have large core routers that sit directly on the ISP backbone network. What this means for clients sitting in the datacenter is lot's and lot's of highly reliable carrier grade bandwidth....cheap! It is not uncommon for a datacenter to have up to 30 different ISP's located within it's walls. Many of the facilities are known as Internet Exchange Points(IXP), or a Network Access Point(NAP).

When a company sets up a network at an office they usually just get the Internet bandwidth capacity that they need such as a single T3, which is 45 Megabits, or an OC3, which is 155 Megabits without the redundancy.
