Unpacking PACS to Build Better Solutions

PACS can be complicated to medical offices and hospitals if they are looking for their first PACS system. This release educates them regarding how a PACS system is built from the ground up. It's all about PACS.

April 6, 2012 - PRLog -- “PACS starts with a strong foundation, a reliable and trusted vendor and a modality.”

SEATTLE—April 6, 2012 – nuCore Solutions is unpacking PACS so that hospitals, veterinarians and chiropractors will better understand what to look for, and how to build a customized PACS solution for their needs today and in the future.

“It’s complicated,” said Greg Perry, General Manager of nuCore Solutions.  “Unfortunately, complicated systems, compounded by a wide array of choices, often cause wrong decisions that can cost you more in the future.”  Perry added, “Having a good relationship with a knowledgeable vendor will protect you by not selling you more than you need and at the same time save you dollars on what you will need in the future.”

To start, you need a DICOM modality or multiple modalities. These might include computed tomography (CT), ultrasound (US), computed radiography (CR), positron emission tomography (PET), or magnetic resonance (MRI).  The traditional way of working with film images from these modalities is mostly by hand and labor intensive. One of the biggest concerns facilities face is the number of films that go missing every year.  An image lost is one that can never be created again − it is an original image taken at that moment in time that becomes extremely valuable when doing comparison work to a new image.

Today, a complete PACS solution is nearly fully automatic.  nuCore removes unnecessary time, labor and risk from the equation by streamlining the workflow process, resulting in significantly improved patient care. Once the DICOM images are created and sent to the Gateway, they can be automatically routed to the Workstation, Archive, exam rooms, and remote destinations.

Some of the many benefits to a well-designed PACS solution include:
•   Keeping images safe and secure
•   Multi-user retrievals
•   Permission-based access
•   Images never degrade
•   No more lost images or cost to replace
•   Remote image review from home, office or other locations
•   Smartphone access
•   Referring physician access
•   Off-site storage and redundancy backups
•   Easy to learn
•   Monitor resolutions to fit your needs
•   DICOM compliant
•   Improved workflow
•   Reduced/eliminated film usage
•   Eliminating crowded file rooms
•   Decreased patient wait time
•   Improving patient care
