Cass MSc student winner of £5,000 scholarship

Cass Business School Investment Management MSc student Ingrid Morante has been awarded a prestigious £5,000 scholarship by the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI).

April 5, 2012 - PRLog -- Applicants for the award were required to write an essay on the most critical features of the Retail Distribution Review (RDR), an initiative by the Financial Services Authority (FSA) to improve the quality of financial advice and level of protection available to consumers. They also had to discuss its likely impact on consumers, individual advisors, product providers and retail advisory firms. Firms and financial advisors need to comply with this new regulatory framework starting 1 January 2013.

Ingrid says: "I am extremely grateful to CISI Educational Trust and the Stephen Cook Scholarship Programme for their support. The money will contribute to my tuition and help me finance my study in London.

"This award recognises my efforts and sets an example to Latin American students who want to obtain an outstanding quality of education in England. Receiving this scholarship shows that hard-working and determined students are often supported."

Ingrid is the second student from Cass to win The Stephen Cooke Scholarship - International Accounting and Finance MSc (http://www.cass.city.ac.uk/courses/masters/courses/intern... ) student Nicolas Greilsamer won it last year for his essay on principal regulatory changes that the UK Banking Commission should apply in light of the recent financial crisis.

Ingrid, from Ecuador has a BSc in Finance from the USA. She set up a small business in Ecuador a year and a half ago and continues to contribute to the business by giving back office support to her partner.

The Stephen Cooke Scholarship is open to students of financial subjects at accredited CISI centres of excellence in the UK. Cass has been an accredited centre of excellence since May 2007. Centres of excellence are a select group of UK universities, recognised by the CISI as offering leadership in academic education on financial markets.

The Stephen Cooke Scholarship was established in 1999 following Stephen’s death at a young age in 1997. Stephen Cooke was a member of the Board of the Securities Institute (the original name of the CISI), of the London Stock Exchange, and of the APCIMS, the stockbrokers’ trade association. He was also Chief Executive of a leading private client firm, Gerrard Vivian Gray.
