The Hunger Game Mockingjay Bird

March 30, 2012 - PRLog -- Ever since the release of the book Mockingjay and now the movie Hunger Game what is fast catching the attention of the people is the bird Mockingjay. Hunger Games fan and people in general are curious to know is there any bird like Mockingjay in reality or it is just a fictional character purely the imagination of Suzanne Collins, the writer of the Hunger Game series.

First thing first, there is a bird in reality named Mockingbird. Till date, around 17 species of Mockingbird has been found all round the bird. Look wise these 17 species of Mockingbird differs here and there but what is common among all of them is their special ability to mimic the songs of other birds and sounds of insects and other animal exactly which could give illusion to the listener.

In the book Hunger Games, Mockingjay feature of mimicry is inspired by the real bird Mockingbird but else the history behind their creation is completely fictitious. Mockingjay was the result of mating between Jabberjay and female Mockingbird.

Now we all know about Mockingbird. Jabberjay is the creation of Capitol. They have the special ability to memorise the entire human conversation and repeat it as it is. Capitol used them on rebellions to know their plans. But when Capitol’s spy Jabberjay was exposed to rebellions, latter became useless to former. So Capitol deserted them to die. But before the entire clan of Jabberjay wiped out, they mated with Mockingbird to reproduce Mockingjay.

The bird Mockingjay has special significance  in the book. Capitol consider themselves to be perfect hence the most powerful. Mockingjay are a tight slap on their perfection. They were created and living against the wish of Capitol. Thus became a symbol of rebel in Panem.

In the novel Mockingjay, Katniss is described as Mockingjay as she is also alive against the wish of evil government of Panem, Capitol. Like Mockingjay, Capitol also wanted to destroy Katniss but fail to do so. In the cover of the book Mockingjay shows, a Mockingjay flying high in the blue sky with her wings wide open. This shows liberation and freedom.
