The San Antonio Board of REALTORS (SABOR) Sees Area Home Prices on the Rise

Although many real estate markets across the U.S. continue to struggle to recover from the recent severe recession, the San Antonio market is outperforming the national average with local home prices on the upswing, at least according to the San Antonio Board of REALTORS.

In February 2012 the average home price in the San Antonio area was $183,955 reflecting a 3% increase from the same month in 2011. Median home prices remained stable at $147,200, a slight 1% decrease from February 2011.

Even better news was the fact that 1,243 single-family residential homes sold in the San Antonio are in February 2012, which was a 12% increase over February 2011, and there were 1,456 pending home sales. Cleary the San Antonio market is poised for a strong rebound.

San Antonio has been on the brink of a housing recovery for the past several months. At the end of 2011 only homeowners in Houston and San Antonio saw their property values rise above 2007 peak levels while home prices fell between 0.7% and 1.1% in the top ten U.S. housing markets.

Strong job growth, affordability and low interest rates are the main reasons for the strong market in San Antonio and things look even brighter moving forward. According to eh Bureau of Labor Statistics, San Antonio ranked in the top 10 metro cities in projected job growth through 2020. San Antonio remains a great place to work, live and do business and those factors plus the improving national economy will see the San Antonio housing market continue to thrive.
