March 28, 2012 - PRLog -- Dunannie, Bedales Pre-prep School, hosted an Art Exhibition last week in the school hall to raise money for good causes.

All the artists whose work featured in the exhibition were either local to Steep or were relations and friends of the pupils. A huge variety of artwork was submitted by both professional and amateur artists, in many mediums including bronze sculptures, intricate metalwork, photography and beautiful paintings. Much of the art was donated and in excess of 50 pieces were sold by silent auction. Each pupil at Dunannie had created a self-portrait which were also on display.

The event raised an impressive £5,000 for Dunannie’s chosen charities – Petersfield based Hounds for Heroes and Big Brother Mouse, a child literacy charity based in Laos. A small portion of the funds will be used to provide an Artist in Residence at the school who will come in to work on art projects over the coming year with the Dunannie pupils.

Gulf War veteran ex-Royal Navy Chief Petty Officer Allen Parton and his assistance dog EJ (Endal Junior) from Hounds for Heroes were one of the first visitors to the art exhibition on Thursday morning.

Jo Webbern, Head of Dunannie, commented “I am very grateful for the huge amount of work that has gone into this art exhibition. So many people have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make it the success that it has been. We are delighted to be helping such worthwhile charities.”

Hounds for Heroes is a relatively young charity founded in February 2010 which provides specially trained assistance dogs to injured and disabled men and women of both the UK armed forces and civilian emergency services, providing them with help and practical support leading to an enhanced quality of life.
