Social Media & Meetups Inject New Life into Old-School Local Business Networking

March 21, 2012 - PRLog -- Burlington, Ontario -- The Business in Burlington networking group knew it was onto something when their first in-person meetup attracted 60 local businesses just 4 days after New Years. Since then, the monthly BiB meetups have grown rapidly and the 4th BiB meetup (scheduled for April 4th) is fully booked (150+ people) with a waiting list weeks before the event.

BiB has created quite the buzz and attracted people into Burlington from Toronto, Hamilton and as far away as Barrie. Upcoming special guests include Burlington's Mayor Rick Goldring and other local VIP's are enquiring about available space to attend what some are calling 'the hottest networking ticket in town.'

Created as an alternative to exclusive or 'walled' networking groups 'Business in Burlington' offers an open, friendly, free and lively platform to connect, share and make new business contacts through leveraged social media and in-person events.

"I have always held that old-school networking was powerful yet inefficient," said James Burchill, the creator and organizer behind BiB. "Most networking is not-working optimally. Many networks are more like exclusive clubs and while that format is valuable, it's not true networking in my opinion. Look at nature - it promotes diversification and is open and adaptive. You want more connection points not less."

As of 03/21/12, BiB has 954 members in their LinkedIn group, 292 members in their Meetup group (with +50% engagement) and 3518 Twitter followers. The newest addition to BiB's social media marketing includes their YouTube channel where member and event footage is shared.
